The “BITE – Building Integration Through Entrepreneurship” project supports the starting and development of small and medium enterprises led by the African Diaspora in Italy, Greece and Sweden. The focus is on enterprises that have a positive social and environmental impact.
The customized training and mentoring boosts both the entrepreneurial development and the socioeconomic integration of migrants joining the initiative.
B.I.T.E. is co-financed by the European Union (DG GROW) and led by (lead partner) Etimos Foundation, in partnership with the Municipality of Milan, E4Impact, ISMU, ERFC - Greece, and Integra - Sweden.
This transnational consortia aims at strengthening the competences of migrant entrepreneurs and supporting their start ups. The test phase in Italy will serve as training and organisational model for the following phases in Greece and Sweden, which are thought to multiply the impact of the project in contexts that have different economic and migration backgrounds.
So far B.I.T.E. has supported a hundred migrants to focus on their own business idea through business courses that provided them with the tools they needed to formalize an enterprise.
A webinar on the project outcome was held on the 15th of October 2020.
The webinar is still available on B.I.T.E. Youtube channel, along with the interviews to beneficiaries, mentors and financial experts. The video-interviews were shot by Etimos Foundation, ERFC and Fondazione Ismu.
The "Handbook on migrant entrepreneurship for local authorities and civil society organisations' is one of the B.I.T.E. most telling tools for disseminating this experience (see the section Documents below).
Etimos Foundation has also produced an animated video-course on entrepreneurship that provides the essential tools to formalize a business. The video-course is available in English and French.
